Zinedine Zidane: Real Madrid may have to pay £85m for Tottenham star Gareth Bale
REAL MADRID sporting director Zinedine Zidane has intimated that Tottenham may hold out for a world-record £85 million transfer fee for coveted forward Gareth Bale.
Madrid are putting the pressure on Spurs to sell the Welshman this summer, with a figure of £60m said to be on offer from the Spanish giants.
However, Zidane - who has been tasked with bringing Bale to the Bernabeu by president Florentino Perez - revealed the Real may have to break the globe's transfer record again to sign Bale.
Madrid paid £80m to secure Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United in 2009, and the La Liga outfit may have to pay as much as stunning £85m to land their 23-year-old target.
"The talk about Gareth Bale is not a surprise," said Zidane. "It is impossible to have the season he just had and not be linked with the biggest clubs in Europe.
"If any club is going to tempt Spurs, then it will take big money – maybe even record-breaking money.
"There are four or five clubs at the moment who have the finances not to be put off by a record-breaking fee like that."
