Gus Poyet top of Swansea's list if Michael Laudrup quits
GUS POYET heads the list of potential replacements for Michael Laudrup at Swansea.
Also on Swansea’s wanted list, should Laudrup leave, are Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Rene Meulensteen and Gianfranco Zola.
Laudrup is angry with the Liberty Stadium’s board at the lack of transfer activity. He was keen to nail down his targets early – particularly a new striker – with the Europa League qualifiers fast approaching on August 1.
Yet Swansea insist funds are available to Laudrup to boost his squad. Despite the transfer dispute, Laudrup, 48, linked with clubs across Europe including Paris Saint-Germain and Fenerbahce, insists he intends to stay in Wales.
But he has demanded that the Swansea board move faster by recruiting new players.
That will force club chairman Huw Jenkins and his board to sort out the crisis. But they are relaxed about the situation even if Laudrup leaves – as Roberto Martinez, Paulo Sousa and Brendan Rodgers all did before him.
Jenkins has said: “We always do that process of looking for the next manager.
“We look at different teams and how they play, different managers and if they have the right backgrounds to suit us.”
