Manchester City dealt blow in pursuit of Real Madrid's Pepe
MANCHESTER CITY have been warned that Pepe is not for sale this summer.
The Citizens were pondering launching a £21m bid for the Portuguese centre-back although Chelsea were also in the hunt.
There is expected to be a mass exodus of Los Blancos players leaving the Bernebeu in the summer, including Fabio Coentrao who was also tipped to follow Jose Mourinho to Stamford Bridge.
But City have told to rethink their plans by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.
"Pepe is not for sale. He will not leave this summer, not in my opinion anyway," Perez told Spanish radio station Onda Cero radio.
"He is one of the best defenders in the world. It is very difficult to find someone like him."
Pepe made 47 appearances for club and country last term.
