Tottenham's Andros Townsend in betting ban
THE FA have banned Andros Townsend “from all football and footballing activity” for four months after his betting violation.
The Tottenham winger, who had been on loan to QPR during the final months of last term , was found to have bet on competitions in which his team were involved against FA regulations – although sources say that none of the games involved either of the two London clubs and there is no suggestion of any match-fixing.
Three months of the four are suspended until July 2013 and will only be served if Townsend commits further offences against the betting regulations.
He was additionally fined £18,000 for undisclosed offences. The month he must serve now is backdated to May 23 .
Yesterday, Townsend said on Twitter : “Following a personal hearing at the FA and the statement issued today, I fully accept the disciplinary action and shall not be appealing. This has been a regrettable experience from which I fully intend to come back stronger. I’m determined for this indiscretion to not tarnish my career moving forward.”
