Manchester City target Edinson Cavani holding out for Real Madrid or Barcelona 'dream'
NAPOLI striker Edinson Cavani appears to be prepared to snub interest from Manchester City to push through a move to Spain.
Manchester City were thought to be in pole position to sign the Uruguayan hitman this summer, with incoming manager Manuel Pellegrini expected to be handed a £50 million gift in new players Cavani and Isco.
However, the 26-year-old's switch to the Etihad is far from secured, despite reports that Edin Dzeko could be used in a makeweight deal with the Italian side.
Chelsea are also interested in Cavani but may turn their attentions to Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic, while the Napoli star talks up a potential move to either Real Madrid or Barcelona.
"As a child I dreamed of playing for Real Madrid or Barcelona," Cavani said. "But now I am proud to be at Napoli, this is important."
"On my future I cannot say anything, because I still do not know anything.
"I do not get distracted at all when I hear about offers and interest from other teams, I am used to it now. Honestly, I still have a contract and I just think about Napoli."
A transfer to either Real or Barca could prove unlikely though, considering Madrid are pressing ahead with a £60m bid for Tottenham's Gareth Bale while the La Liga champions have just paid nearly £50m to sign Brazil prodigy Neymar.
City remain the frontrunners to secure the ex-Palermo marksman's services, although they may have to move quickly with reports in Italy claiming Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has offered Cavani a new contract worth over £100,000 per week.
Ex-Chelsea boss Rafa Benitez has been confirmed as the new manager of the Naples outfit, and the club are thought to have set their coveted star a deadline of two weeks to decide whether to stay under the new management or move on.
