Gibraltar will take part in Euro 2016 qualifying campaign
GIBRALTAR, the tiny British overseas territory boasting just one professional player, will take part in a Euro 2016 qualifying campaign after gaining UEFA membership, but will be kept apart from Spain.
The Spanish FA had long opposed the move – Spain claims sovereignty over the territory after it was ceded to Britain under the 1713 Treaty of Utrecht – but was forced to accept that Gibraltar has become UEFA’s 54th member.
