Real Madrid weigh up Chelsea's David Luiz as alternative to Pepe
REAL MADRID are considering tabling a bid for Chelsea's David Luiz as they brace themselves for Pepe's departure.
Pepe's future at the Bernebeu has been clouded with uncertainty after he fell out with Jose Mourinho, who will leave once their La Liga campaign finishes.
Luiz on the other hand enjoyed a fine season, and assimilated well into his new role as a holding midfielder.
The Brazilian, who has courted interest from Barcelona has welcomed the chance to team up with Mourinho, although Real have made him a top target.
Portuguese paper A Bola has it that Luiz would set Real back £29.7m.
Conversely, they suggest that Manchester City, who are set to appoint Manuel Pellegrini as Roberto Mancini's successor, would have to pay £17m for Pepe's services.
Real ended this season trophy less after losing to neighbours Atletico 2-1 in the Copa del Rey final last Friday.
