Rafa Benitez rules out move to Everton
RAFA BENITEZ admits he can never be Everton boss.
Chelsea’s interim manager signs off at Stamford Bridge today with a thinly veiled “come and get me” plea to any top English club – apart from Everton.
Having been Liverpool boss, Benitez knows succeeding Old Trafford-bound David Moyes at Goodison is a non-starter.
“It would not be easy for them to approach me or for me to go there,” he said. “I have a lot of respect for Everton, but obviously it would be very difficult for me (having had the Liverpool job) as well.
“It is still my idea to join an English club, but it is important I find the right one and I don’t know which one that will be. There are a lot of rumours but nothing official.
“I am a family man and I want to stay close to where my family is (in the North-west), so I will have to wait and see what happens.
“I want to compete and my next club will want a manager who can compete for something.
“It would depend on the project. That is the key.”
