Chelsea inching closer to wrapping up deal for Edinson Cavani
CHELSEA appear to be moving closer to pulling off a deal for Edinson Cavani.
Manchester City have had a long-standing interest in the Napoli marksman and it was thought they would use Edin Dzeko as a makeweight in a potential £33m deal.
Chelsea have been continually courting Atletico Madrid hit man Radamel Falcao, but it seems they have been gazumped by Monaco who are ready to tie up a £50.7m deal for him.
But now it seems Cavani could make a sensational switch to Stamford Bridge.
Italian TV station Mediaset has it that the transfer fee has been set at £42.5m, which could rise depending on performance related bonuses.
They also claim Cavani could be paid £145,000-a-week at Chelsea, which would put him in the bracket of the club's top earners.
Cavani has an astonishing strike rate this season, smashing home 35 goals in all competitions.
