Rio Ferdinand's eager to extend Manchester United stay
MANCHESTER UNITED defender Rio Ferdinand is determined to prolong his stay at Old Trafford.
The 34-year-old's future has been in the air for some time now as his current contract runs up in the summer.
Ferdinand, who scored United's match winner against Swansea in Sir Alex Ferguson's final home game in charge on Sunday, says he wants to continue to amass trophies with the Premier League champions.
"Manchester United has a bright future," Ferdinand told United's in-house channel MUTV.
"The manager has left the club in great health and we are looking forward. We have a great number of good young players who are eager to win things and be successful and work hard.
"That is what the manager has instilled in these players.
"The work ethic has to continue if we are going to be successful. I would like to be part of that."
Ferdinand joined United from Leeds for a then British transfer record of £30m in 2002.
