David Moyes may bring Everton defender Phil Jagielka to Manchester United
MANCHESTER UNITED manager-to-be David Moyes is considering spending £10 million to sign his Everton lieutenant Phil Jagielka this summer.
Moyes is thought to be preparing a shortlist of transfer targets for when he takes the reigns at Old Trafford, with Toffees stars Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines high on his agenda.
However, central defender Jagielka could become the Scot's first signing at Manchester United due to the high esteem Moyes holds him in.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger bid upwards of £12m for the England international two summers ago, but Moyes refused to sell.
Although aged 30, Jagielka would not be a long-term solution for the Red Devils, Moyes wants a trusted colleague to help ease his transition from Everton.
Jagielka would be unlikely to turn down a move to United, and would relish the chance to play under Moyes again. The former Sheffield United player revealed his deep admiration for the 50-year-old when asked about who was likely to take over at Goodison Park.
"For the manager who comes in his first phone call should probably be to David Moyes to thank him for the squad he put together," said Jagielka.
"It is going to be an interesting summer to see who does come in but we are proud to have had David Moyes as our manager."
