Brendan Rodgers targets left-back Lucas Digne
LIVERPOOL have opened talks over a deal for 19-year-old Lille left-back Lucas Digne.
Digne has been strongly linked to both Manchester clubs, as well as Ajax and Udinese, but it now appears that Liverpool may have jumped to the head of the queue.
Whilst no agreement has been reached, it is believed talks have begun on a deal thought to be in the region of £8m for the France Under-19 international.
Digne remains under contract at Lille for another three years but the feeling in France is that it is time for the left-sided player to seek a bigger stage, preferably without sacrificing first-team football.
It is unclear whether this would be something Liverpool could promise to offer right away but the move certainly raises questions about Jose Enrique's future at Anfield
The Spanish defender has not always been first choice under Brendan Rodgers after being brought to the club by Kenny Dalglish.
Even if the move for Digne does not come off, it appears that Liverpool are in the market for a new left-back once the transfer window reopens.
