WATCH: Bayern Munich humble Barcelona as Arjen Robben leads rout
BAYERN MUNICH ensured there will be an all-German Champions League final at Wembley with another demolition of Barcelona.
Bayern completed their stunning semi-final rout to set up a clash with Borussia Dortmund on May 25.
It was the first time since 1987 – and against Dundee United of all teams – that Barcelona have lost both legs of a European knockout tie. And Dutch star Arjen Robben led the way by driving Bayern in front three minutes after the break.
An own-goal by Gerard Pique and a header from Thomas Mueller sealed Barcelona’s fate but Robben insisted his team will keep their feet on the ground, despite a second sensational result against Barcelona.
Robben said: “If you win 4-0 and, especially this one, 3-0 in their own stadium, it is amazing.
“We have to stay calm. At this moment we are playing some great football and we have to enjoy this moment.
“We improved the squad compared to last season and the most important thing of all is that we play as a team. Defensively we are very well organised, everyone is doing their job. Also the four players who play up front, they also work hard and work backwards.”
The victory sees Bayern through to their third final in four years having lost to Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan in 2010 and Chelsea, on penalties, last year.
And of their final date with their Bundesliga rivals later this month, Robben added: “It is going to be a big one.”
With Lionel Messi starting on the bench as he battles back from a hamstring injury – and not even coming on – Barcelona never looked like producing one of the greatest-ever European comebacks.
Barca’s first serious threat on goal came in the 24th minute when Pedro Rodriguez saw his 30-yard drive tipped over by Manuel Neuer. But any hopes of an unlikely fightback disappeared in the 48th minute as Bayern took the lead at the Nou Camp.
Robben collected a long cross-field pass from David Alaba before racing into the area and curling an unstoppable shot past Victor Valdes and inside the far post.
Bayern doubled their in the 72nd minute, when French winger Franck Ribery found space and his cross was sliced into his own net by Pique.
And Bayern completed the rout soon after, Mueller scoring their third with a header.
FORMER Barcelona and Chelsea midfielder Deco, 35, has tested positive for the masking agent furosemide. His club Fluminense will only make a statement tomorrow when the B sample comes out.
