Newcastle boss Alan Pardew defiant despite Rafa Benitez link
NEWCASTLE UNITED boss Alan Pardew is convinced he is the right man for the job, even though his side have pulled back into the relegation mire.
A 6-0 drubbing at the hands of Liverpool last weekend heaped the pressure on Pardew, whose side have endured a troublesome season.
Although the Magpies have a five-point buffer over Wigan, their Premier League status is far from secured.
With rumours swirling around that Rafa Benitez could take over the reins at St James' Park, an embattled Pardew insists he can turn things around.
In an interview with Newcastle-based paper The Chronicle, Pardew said: "Yes. We’ve had a really, really poor month in terms of results.
“Now we have to stick together and get through it. As I’ve said before, words don’t win games.
“They’re not important any more.
“The performance we put in was unacceptable.
“It wasn’t good enough for us. We’re aware of that, and we need to put it right."
Pardew was rewarded with a successful first season on Tyneside with a bumper eight-year contract.
