WATCH: Robin Van Persie walks into wrong dressing room on Arsenal return
MANCHESTER UNITED striker Robin Van Persie was left embarrassed yesterday after he almost walked into the Arsenal dressing room on his return to the Emirates.
Van Persie - who had the last laugh as his penalty earned United a point from their visit to Arsenal - shook his head and slapped himself awkwardly as he turned away from the home dressing room in mistake.
The Dutchman was repeatedly jeered by Arsenal fans during the game, having controversially left the club last summer for rivals United in a £24m deal.
His reception was perhaps not as hostile as expected, as the guard of honour was received relatively without incident, but this blunder will leave Arsenal fans yearning from their former star.
As he made his way off the Red Devils team bus, Van Persie walked into the stadium and greeted some former Arsenal colleagues before jerking away from the Arsenal dressing room entrance, slapping his forehead and smiling in embarrassed fashion.
The ex-Arsenal captain silenced the boo-boys after slotting a penalty for the visitors after a calamitous double-error from full-back Bacary Sagna, as he returned to his former club as a Premier League champions.
The 29-year-old also found the net in this fixture at Old Trafford earlier in the season, and is set to win the Golden Boot at the end of the campaign after adding to his now 25-goal league tally.
