WATCH: David Beckham sees red for PSG as Joey Barton praises his dismissal
DAVID BECKHAM picked up a straight red as Paris Saint-Germain finished with nine men in their 1-0 victory at Evian Thonon Gaillard yesterday.
Beckham, who came on as a second-half substitute, was sent off for a foul on Youssef Adnane two minutes into stoppage time after Marco Verratti had been dismissed in the 80th minute for a second yellow card.
A mass brawl then erupted after the final whistle, which also saw PSG keeper Salvatore Sirigu and Evian striker Saber Khelifa dismissed.
PSG will be crowned French champions if they better Marseille’s result next weekend.
Almost predictably, Marseille's on-loan midfielder Joey Barton took to Twitter to weigh in on Beckham's red card, to controversially praise the former Manchester United player.
Barton labelled the tackle "naughty' and claimed every time he sees Beckham playing in France "he is either fighting or arguing with someone".
The motormouth then said he thought Beckham didn't make contact with his Evian opponent, but deserved to be sent off before comically acclaiming the star by joking: "He's going up in my estimation weekly old GoldenPlums...#lunatic".
