Arsene Wenger worried about Chelsea summer spending spree
ARSENAL manager Arsene Wenger is sweating over the summer transfer plans of Premier League rivals Chelsea.
Wenger is expected to be handed a £70m budget to spend on improving his Arsenal squad, but he is more worried with who Chelsea bring in ahead of next season.
The Frenchman's concern may explain the Gunners swift move to open talks with Fiorentina over the sale of forward Stevan Jovetic.
But with the Blues linked with a host of top players - notably Atletico Madrid striker Falcao and Bayer Leverkusen forward Andre Schurrle - Wenger has one eye on what his London rivals do.
“I’m afraid of what Chelsea can do in the summer," admitted Wenger.
“We have to be prepared for them to be one of the biggest movers in terms of investment once the transfer window opens.
“They have a great base to their squad, notably young players Oscar, Juan Mata, Ramires and Eden Hazard, but I think they will be busy.”
Wenger also speculated about the potential return to Stamford Bridge for Jose Mourinho, saying that would be a strong move for owner Roman Abramovich.
“Chelsea have a great coach in Rafa Benitez but, if they part ways, Jose Mourinho would be a good solution.
“He is one of the best in the world but Benitez is doing a good job.”
