Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers bemoans Luis Suarez's ban
LIVERPOOL boss Brendan Rodgers has hit out over the severity of Luis Suarez's ban after he was banned for 10 months for biting another player.
The controversial striker was slapped with a 10-match ban after the FA punished him heavily for biting Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic.
Suarez originally disputed the FA's claim that a three-match ban would be insufficient before the verdict was delivered.
Rodgers failed to hide his 'disappointment' during his news conference.
He said: "That is something we are bitterly disappointed with - not so much the ban because everyone has seen it and Luis was very open and honest to know it was wrong.
"The punishment is against the man, rather than the incident.
"In the last few years there have been two incidents both in 2006.
"One player [Jermain Defoe] received no ban and continued to be backed by the FA as part of the England squad. The second player got a five-game ban."
Liverpool have stated that they will await written reasons for the ban before making any further comment.
