Liverpool show interest in Arsenal target Federico Fazio
ARSENAL are set to be challenged in their bid to sign Sevilla centre-back Federico Fazio by Premier League rivals Liverpool.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is considering Fazio as part of his summer rebuilding plans at the Emirates.
With his contract set to expire at the end of next season, Sevilla are ready to accept a transfer fee of around £5m.
However, it appears Liverpool are also interested in the giant stopper, who has made 24 appearances in La Liga for the Andalusian club so far this campaign.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers was linked with a move for the 26-year-old in January, and could revive his interest this summer with Jamie Carragher set to retire and question marks over the long-term future of Martin Skrtel.
Fazio is thought to be a good fit for the Premier League, with his strong 6ft 5in frame a key component that should allow him to adapt easily from the Spanish game.
Arsenal and Liverpool are also tracking Swansea captain Ashley Williams as the two clubs ponder defensive reinforcements for next season.
