FA ban Liverpool forward Luis Suarez for TEN matches
LIVERPOOL forward Luis Suarez has been banned for ten matches after a charge of violent conduct was upheld by the Independent Regulatory Commission.
Suarez originally admitted to biting Branislav Ivanovic during the Reds' 2-2 draw with Chelsea on Sunday.
However, he contested a claim made by the FA that a three-match ban was insufficient for the severity of the offence.
Liverpool's managing director, Ian Ayre, released a statement, which was published on the club's official website.
It read: "Both the club and player are shocked and disappointed at the severity of today's Independent Regulatory Commission decision.
"We await the written reasons tomorrow before making any further comment."
Suarez was banned for seven games when he played for Ajax after biting PSV midfielder Otman Bakkal during a league encounter.
He will serve the ban with immediate effect but he has until Friday to appeal against the suspension.
