Tottenham to offer ex-Arsenal midfielder Alex Song return to England
BARCELONA midfielder Alex Song could be handed a shock Premier League return by Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
Despite making 24 appearances for the La Liga leaders this season, Song has struggled since making the £15m switch from Arsenal last August.
Recent reports had linked the Cameroon international with a return to Arsenal, but the Gunners manager Arsene Wenger distanced himself from a move for his former player when questioned last week.
And now it appears local rivals Tottenham are plotting an audacious bid to tempt Song back to North London, and in doing so upsetting the fans of his old club.
Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas wants to bolster his midfield next season, and will have increased finances to do so should they secure a top four place this campaign.
With Scott Parker, Tom Huddelstone and Jake Livermore rumoured to be heading out of White Hart Lane this summer, 25-year-old Song could be drafted in to supplement Villas-Boas' central midfield options.
Although an obstacle to any deal could be Barcelona's desire to recoup as close to all of the transfer fee they paid for Song, as well as the player's wish to sign for the rivals of one of his former clubs.
