Fulham in talks with Roma’s Maarten Stekelenburg as a replacement for Mark Schwarzer
Fulham have opened talks with Roma over a deal for goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg.
The Cottagers, who failed to the sign the Dutch No.1 on loan in January, are ready to make an another move for the 30-year-old.
It is believed during initial talks an asking price of £5.1million was set.
A source told Goal.com: “The two clubs are in talks about a permanent move. Stekelenburg is playing better since the change of manager but he wants to leave Roma. He doesn’t speak Italian and the environment doesn’t really suit him.”
Fulham have made signing a goalkeeper a priority, even though they have offered current No.1 Mark Schwarzer a one-year contract extension.
The Australian, who turns 41 in October, is still contemplating whether to stay in West London after being told the club intends to bring a new goalkeeper in this summer.
