Gareth Bale heads PFA Player of the Year award shortlist
SPURS' Gareth Bale is amongst the star-studded nominees for the PFA Player of the Year award.
The mercurial Welshman has been in superlative form for the north London outfit as he helped spearhead their charge for a top-four spot.
The PFA also announced the shortlist for the PFA Young Player of the Year award which features Arsenal's Jack Wilshere, Aston Villa's Christian Benteke and Manchester United's Danny Welbeck.
The six-man shortlist for the main prize arguably shows a decline in English talent, as it features only one homegrown player - Michael Carrick.
PFA chairman Gordon Taylor in the meantime has clamoured against the idea of a quota on foreign players entering the Premier League.
He said: "You could incentivise clubs but that would be going down a difficult road.
"The game has become a global village.
"Everyone knows every good player in every country. To try to isolate ourselves and cut ourselves off is not sustainable.
"If we only buy British goods, who else is going to buy ours?"
