England dream still alive at Reading for Alex McCarthy
NIGEL ADKINS has told his goalkeeper Alex McCarthy that he need not quit Reading to chase his England dream if the Royals are relegated.
The important thing for Alex is that he wants to be playing.
Tipped to earn his first senior call-up before he injured his shoulder in November, the former England Under-21 keeper returned to fitness with a superb display in their 0-0 draw with Liverpool last Saturday.
And Adkins said: “I was at the goalkeeping conference at the weekend at St George’s Park and Jack Butland spoke. He has an England call-up and he played for Birmingham in the Championship.
