Arsenal on standby for unsettled Barcelona midfielder Alex Song
ARSENAL are on red alert for Barcelona midfielder Alex Song ahead of the summer transfer window.
Song joined the Catalan giants last summer in a deal worth £15m, but has failed to hold down a regular spot in the first team.
The Cameroonian has been a flop, as highlighted by the fact that he came second in a poll carried out by Spanish paper Marca which showed the worst foreign signings.
Song's uncle, Rigobert, confirmed that his nephew is unhappy with life in Spain.
"I did not expect him [Alex] to play so little, Barcelona wanted him so strongly last summer and saw off a lot of big clubs [to sign him]," Rigobert told Italian media.
"Getting into the first team at a club like Barcelona is not easy, but this year he has almost exclusively been used as a substitute.
“Alex is not happy, at Arsenal he was a leader on and off the field.
“He does not feel like a leader in Spain and it makes him sick.”
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is set to be handed a £70m transfer kitty in the summer, and so tabling a bid for Song shouldn't be a problem.
