Real Madrid usurp Manchester United as most valuable team according to Forbes
MANCHESTER UNITED have been dethroned by Real Madrid as the most valuable football team, according to the latest findings by Forbes.
The nine-times Champions League winners saw its value soar to £2.1bn, with United just behind.
This marks the first time United have not come out on top, since Forbes began collating data on the value of football teams since 2004.
Barcelona, Arsenal and Bayern Munich made the top five.
Forbes analyst Mike Ozanian said United have still done a great job marketing themselves abroad.
They are only £150m behind Real at this point. They have done a great job in Asia with new sponsorships
He said: "It's not like Manchester United have slipped; in fact they went up a lot.
"They are only £150m behind Real at this point. They have done a great job in Asia with new sponsorships.
"British teams in general have been doing a good job in the US. The inroads the European teams are making in the US is catching on.
"However, we are still seeing a widening gulf in the Top 20 list. Newcastle won't come close to catching Manchester United in my lifetime in terms of revenue."
