Manchester City assistant coach David Platt says Wigan game is no dress rehearsal
MANCHESTER CITY assistant coach David Platt has insisted that tonight's Premier League clash with Wigan is no dress rehearsal for their FA Cup Final showdown next month.
The two sides meet on May 11, after City overcame Chelsea, while Wigan brushed aside Millwall.
City will have one eye on the Cup Final, but they won't want their Premier League campaign to peter out as they currently trail Manchester United by 15 points.
Platt claims the result of this match will not have a bearing on next month;s showpiece final.
"It is not a case of because we are playing them tonight, we will know how to play them in The Cup Final," Platt told the FA's offcial website.
"Each team has four or five games before then.
"Roberto Martinez is a good manager and I am sure they are looking at the next four or five games and thinking, 'If we can get away from that relegation threat, then we can enjoy the day'.
"It doesn't take the shine off the day but retaining Premier League status for them is paramount.
"I am sure if they have it in the bag by then, they will be delighted and they can go and enjoy a Wembley Cup Final."
