Sheffield Wednesday boss David Jones shelves contract talks with players
SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY boss David Jones has put contract talks with players on hold.
The former Cardiff manager wants to ensure his club's Championship status has been secured first.
The Owls slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Yorkshire rivals Leeds at the weekend, and sit just four points above the relegation zone with four games remaining.
He said: "When we are there (safety), and not almost there, we will look at it.
"There's still a long way to go, nothing is guaranteed, everybody thought that 50 points would be the safety margin, we're on 53 and we're not safe yet.
We said that contracts wouldn't get sorted until the end of the season and that's what we've stuck to
"We need to keep plugging away and try and finish as high as we can.
