Chelsea close in on £20m move for Andre Schurrle
CHELSEA are closing in on the signing of Germany international Andre Schurrle, with the Blues set to begin negotiations with Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen.
Rafa Benitez's team were knocked out of the FA Cup yesterday by Manchester City, and are set for a summer of rebuilding with a new manager and fresh set of players expected at Stamford Bridge.
But there appears to be some good news for Chelsea emerging from Wembley after reports suggested representatives of Leverkusen were in attendance to discuss a £20m move for Schurrle.
Roman Abramovich made two bids to sign the 22-year-old last summer, but finally looks set to land the forward during this summer's transfer window.
The West London club are also keen on La Liga hitman Falcao, but will move to tie up Schurrle first with personal terms set to be negotiated soon.
Leverkusen director Rudi Voller recently admitted Chelsea's interest in the German outfit's star player recently, saying: "It’s totally normal for there to be enquiries for such a great player, even from London. That’s part of the business."
On-loan winger Kevin De Bruyne has been suggested as a possible makeweight in the deal, having impressed in the Bundesliga this season with Werder Bremen.
