Fulham should have signed Christian Benteke, says Jol
FULHAM boss Martin Jol says they should have pulled out all the stops in their attempts to sign Christian Benteke in the summer.
Benteke, now with relegation-threatened Aston Villa, will face his former suitors at Villa Park today. And Jol says the 19-goal striker is now worth millions more than the £7million Paul Lambert paid Genk for him.
He said: “They took a gamble and they did well. In England nobody knew him, so Villa did well with their scouting system.
“He was on my list as well. We only wanted to pay a certain amount. Maybe we should have gone to the bank or asked the chairman.
“Sometimes you have to step back and be humble and say you are too late.”
