Sir Alex Ferguson tells Manchester United board: Get me Raphael Varane
SIR ALEX FERGUSON has asked the Manchester United board to "pay any price" for Real Madrid's £25million-rated centre-back Raphael Varane.
The 19-year-old France international impressed Ferguson in the Champions League clash between the two sides at Old Trafford and the United boss is intent on snapping him up.
Varane has displaced Pepe in Madrid's back four and Spanish website fichajes.net suggest that United would be willing to offer in the region of €30m (£25.2m) for his signature.
The talented teenager is one of the hottest prospects in European football and would be the perfect long-term replacement for Nemanja Vidic.
Madrid will be keen to keep the prospect and although he is under contract until 2017, Ferguson's interest could prompt Bernabeu chiefs to offer him a new deal.
