Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger poised to splash cash...FINALLY
ARSENE WENGER will splash the cash this summer in a bid to end Arsenal's eight-year wait for a trophy.
To the pain of Gunners fans, the Frenchman has repeatedly refused to part with big money - but now he has had enough.
Ex-Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein insists Wenger now knows it is time to spend.
Dein said: “Clearly they have fallen 20-odd points behind Manchester United which is not good enough and it speaks for itself that he has to strengthen the team and I know he will do that."
Dein left Arsenal in 2007 but is still good friends with Wenger.
He insists that the Arsenal boss is the man who can lead the club on to a bright future.
Dein said: “He is one of the best managers in the world, he’s been coaching for 30 years and knows what he is doing.
“He knows what he wants and it’s just a question of identifying the right talent.”
Arsenal won the FA Cup in 2005 when they beat Manchester United on penalties - but that was their last piece of silverware. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was just 11.
Dein added: “It’s a long, hard season and I am a great supporter of Arsene.
“He has done a phenomenal job and continues to do so year-on-year.
“He has the fire in his belly. I don’t see any reason why he shouldn’t be there.”
Arsenal sit in fifth place in the Premier League and are 21 points behind leaders Manchester United.
