David Beckham poised to start PSG's showdown with Barcelona
DAVID BECKHAM - the last surviving Englishman in the Champions League - has "a good chance" of starting Paris Saint-Germain's last-16 clash with Barcelona tonight.
The former England skipper produced a steady performance in the 2-2 first-leg draw but was slammed by French press who rated him as the worst player on the pitch.
But PSG boss Carlo Ancelotti was pleased with the midfielder's contribution in his 70-minute stay on the pitch and hinted he could start in the Nou Camp.
Ancelotti said: "Some people criticised him, some people were happy with him. I was happy so if the manager was happy then Beckham should be happy.
"He has a chance to play. I thought he played well in the first leg."
Lionel Messi, who was taken off at half-time in that game, wrote on his Facebook page: "I'll be back soon. Luckily, it wasn't serious." But it is thought that tonight's tie has come too soon for the Argentine genius.
Beckham was part of Real Madrid's Galactico generation but despite them being Barcelona's fierce rivals, Ancelotti isn't anticipating too much of a frosty reception.
He added: "He has a very good image - he does not have a problem to play here. He has played as an international. Everyone respects him."
