Borussia Dortmund 3 - Malaga 2: Felipe Santana stages late show
DORTMUND came back from the brink to book their place in the semi-finals of the Champions League with an incredible late victory over Malaga.
The German side still faced elimination on the away-goals rule when Marco Reus struck for Jurgen Klopp’s side to level the scores at 2-2 a minute into injury-time.
But there was even greater drama to come as Dortmund pressed on in search of a third, which duly arrived with seconds remaining as a long punt into the box ended with Felipe Santana scoring an unlikely winner after a frantic goalmouth scramble.
Earlier, a superbly crafted goal from Robert Lewandowski cancelled out Joaquin’s 25th-minute opener just before half-time. But when Malaga substitute Eliseu struck with eight minutes to go it looked to be the decisive blow for the visitors.
This is the best I’ve ever felt
Both Eliseu’s goal for Malaga and the winner from Santana should have been ruled out for offside, ensuring this memorable contest would also be tainted by controversy.
But nothing could distract from Klopp’s delight. “My assistants and me were looking at each other in shock in the dressing room and saying, ‘This is crazy’,” he said. “This is the best I’ve ever felt.”
