Dave Whelan's holiday treat if Wigan beat the drop
DAVE WHELAN has promised his Wigan players he will foot the bill to whisk them all on holiday to Barbados if they win their battle for Premier League survival.
The Wigan chairman gave priority to preserving the club’s top-flight status ahead of FA Cup success as the countdown began to Saturday’s semi-final showdown with Millwall at Wembley.
I have promised the players a holiday in Barbados for staying up
Whelan admitted the new £3million television deal for Premier League sides makes the fight to stay up all the more “desperate” with Wigan in the relegation zone on goal difference.
“Staying up is more important than winning the semi-final, so I have promised the players a holiday in Barbados for staying up,” he said.
“When I was growing up and playing, winning the FA Cup was something absolutely unbelievable.
“But you get so much money out of the Premier League, it’s just phenomenal. It makes this season’s relegation battle all the more desperate.”
