Tottenham and Liverpool are frontrunners for Ajax star Christian Eriksen
AJAX midfielder Christian Eriksen could be set for a move to the Premier League with Tottenham and Liverpool in pole position for his signature.
Reports have emerged detailing how the two English clubs are scouting the Danish star 'almost every week' as they formulate their summer transfer targets.
The 21-year-old has been linked with Europe's elite in the past, but it appears that Spurs and Liverpool are now the leading candidates to secure the playmaker.
A senior source at Ajax is reported to have revealed that Arsenal, Manchester United and Barcelona are no longer interested in purchasing Eriksen, opening the door for a potential switch to either White Hart Lane or Anfield this summer.
“Christian wants to play in the Premier League and we think he will do well there," the Ajax source told a British national newspaper.
"The club had discussed the option of keeping him until the end of his contract but it makes sense now to sell.
“Liverpool and Spurs are scouting him almost every week. Arsenal are no longer interested and Man United are not on the scene.
"The club will not let him go cheaply so there is a long way to go but it seems likely he will move to Tottenham or Liverpool.”
Erikson's intention to play in England, coupled with his contract at the Dutch club set to run out in 2014 has seen speculation increase that he could be on his way this summer.
If Tottenham qualify for the Champions League this season they would represent a better option than seemingly Europa League bound Liverpool, while Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen has urged the North London outfit to bring his former team-mate to the club.
“Technically, he’s one of the best players I’ve played with. He can use his right foot and his left foot equally well," Vertonghen said earlier this season.
Eriksen has made 32 appearances for Ajax this season, scoring seven goals.
