PSG, City, La Liga: Where could Wayne Rooney go if he left United?
WITH his days at Manchester United appearing numbered, Wayne Rooney may be forced to assess his option if he were to leave Old Trafford.
Paris Saint-Germain
Backed by a mega-rich Qatar consortium, PSG have already been reported to be considering a summer move for Rooney and they could afford his £250,000 a week wages.
Real Madrid/Barcelona
Rooney’s combination of tenacity and talent is admired by both Real and Barca. Cristiano Ronaldo would certainly put in a word for him at the Bernabeu. And Jose Mourinho, if he stays as manager, loves him.
Anzhi Makhachkala
Bankrolled by billionaire Russian oligarch Suleyman Kerimov, Anzhi could give family-man Rooney a highly lucrative final payday, but the Dagestan location means there is no chance of that.
Manchester City
City registered their interest in signing Rooney when he was having his contract stand-off with United in 2010 and, like Tevez, would love to take another of their best players. But Rooney would never consider joining City.
Everton
A sentimental return to his first club is more likely to happen towards the end of his career. Rooney, approaching 28, will want to spend his peak years with a top Champions League club.
USA
Rooney has a high profile in the US and would be regarded as a big enough name to justify “franchise player” status and the wages that go with it. But, again, highly unlikely at this stage of his career.
