Chelsea set to sign Chilean starlet Christian Cuevas
CHELSEA have wrapped up a deal to sign 17-year-old Chilean midfielder Cristian Cuevas for around £1.7m in the summer.
The O'Higgins starlet previously had a trial with the Blues in November, but the club have moved to finalise the transfer at the end of this season.
Cuevas has made 12 appearances for the Chilean Under-20 side, scoring three goals. He took to Chilean radio to confirm the news.
"Everything went very quickly and was resolved within a week," Cuevas told Radio Cooperativa.
"Chelsea have followed me for over a year and we finally reached an agreement.
"I'm taking English classes to learn the language as quickly as possible. It will be a big change for me."
The pacy youngster is due to play in the Under-20 World Cup in Turkey this summer over the months of June and July, and could therefore not arrive in England until shortly before next campaign starts.
Chelsea may look to loan out the teen immediately, or allow him some time for development in their academy before he is ready for the first team squad.
