Clubs vote for limit on Premier League wages
PREMIER LEAGUE clubs face a points deduction if they breach new spending regulations as chairmen yesterday moved to prevent another Chelsea or Manchester City from buying overnight success.
The chairmen of the 20 Premier League clubs voted by 13 to six – with one abstention – to implement two significant controls.
One was to limit wage bills for players from next season and the other was to introduce longer-term measures that will restrict the amount of losses clubs can make to £105million over three years.
The first year punishment can be brought about is in 2016.
But based on the latest financial figures, which run from 2008-2011, Roman Abramovic’s Chelsea, Sheikh Mansour’s Manchester City and even Liverpool would all fall foul of the regulations.
