Nigel Adkins in running for Blackpool job
NIGEL ADKINS could make an instant return to football as Blackpool manager.
Adkins, sacked by Southampton on Friday, is being tipped as a leading candidate after Michael Appleton quit to take over at Blackburn.
Blackpool are 15th in the Championship and owner Karl Oyston has approached Adkins .
But midfielder Matt Phillips believes the players cannot be distracted by the speculation.
We still have plenty of time to rescue our season
“We can’t worry about how damaging the confusion is,” he said. “We can’t bother about what is going on away from the football. We still have plenty of time to rescue our season.”
Cardiff’s win saw them move 10 points clear at the top, Tommy Smith volleying a 64th-minute winner after Gary Taylor-Fletcher had equalised Kim Bo-Kyung’s opener.
Smith said: “Everyone’s labelled Cardiff as the nearly team over the past few years.
“That’s something we don’t want to happen this year.”
