Wigan 3 - Reading 2: Jordi Gomez has perfect gift
BIRTHDAYS don’t come any better than this, even if you are 76.
Wigan owner Dave Whelan watched from the stands as Jordi Gomez handed him the perfect present, a brilliant hat-trick which gave the Latics a come-from-behind victory over Reading.
For Whelan, it was time to celebrate only a second home win of the season as Gomez provided the icing on the cake with the injury-time winner. The owner said: “I went into the dressing room and Jordi told me, ‘I did it for you, Mr Chairman’, to which I said, ‘Thank you very much’.”
We were a bit loose at the back and threw it all away
Sean Morrison’s header had given the Royals a half-time advantage but Gomez struck twice in 10 minutes to turn the tables. And after Wigan keeper Ali Al Habsi let Hal Robson-Kanu’s deflected shot squirt under his bar to haul Reading level, a touch of panache by Gomez capped a breathtaking game.
