Chris Smalling back for Manchester United
CHRIS SMALLING is set to ease Manchester United’s defensive worries by being declared fit for his first appearance of the season against Stoke on Saturday.
He missed Euro 2012 with a groin injury then fractured a metatarsal in pre-season training.
But his return will provide Sir Alex Ferguson with cover for Rio Ferdinand and Jonny Evans, who have been United’s only fi t senior centre-halves since Nemanja Vidic was ruled out for two months with a cartilage injury.
Winger Ashley Young, who has missed eight games with a knee injury, is also expected to be available, while Phil Jones is due back early next month.
