Euro 2012: Andy Carroll plea to partner Wayne Rooney for England
ENGLAND goal hero Andy Carroll is determined to partner Wayne Rooney in Tuesday night’s crucial game against the Ukraine.
It was a hard slog at times last season for the £35million Liverpool striker – but on Friday night he illustrated his aerial threat with a brilliantly-executed headed effort as England beat Sweden 3-2.
Now, instead of being replaced by Wayne Rooney – available again after a two-match ban – Carroll wants to play alongside him in a game from which England need a point to qualify for the quarter-finals.
Carroll said: “Wayne is a fantastic player with great qualities and we need him in the team.
“But I would love to play alongside him. Any player would. I’ve never done that before. It would be great to do it.”

With Rooney certain to start, Carroll faces stiff competition from Danny Welbeck and Ashley Young for a forward role.
