Wayne Rooney injury was big secret
ENGLAND boss Roy Hodgson has revealed that key striker Wayne Rooney has been playing with a secret injury just weeks before the start of the European Championships.
He hopes Rooney’s (above) two-game Euro 2012 ban can work in England’s favour – the extended rest allowing what is believed to be an ankle problem to heal properly.
Hodgson said: “For the last three or four of Manchester United’s games, Wayne has been playing with a slight injury which probably needed a couple of weeks to clear up. It’s been kept quiet for the obvious reason that his club didn’t want to alert opponents to this minor injury.”
Sir Alex Ferguson has kept Wayne’s injury quiet and I am not going to go any further into it
Rooney will not travel to Oslo for Saturday’s friendly against Norway but should be available for the warm-up game against Belgium at Wembley on June 2.
Hodgson added: “We could have given him maybe a few more days off but he was adamant he was involved against Belgium.
“But whether he is I don’t know yet.
