Doncaster 1 - Derby 2: Goal-den boy Rob
GARETH ROBERTS doesn’t make a habit of getting on the score sheet.
But he ended his old club Doncaster’s mini-revival, celebrating his first successful strike for nearly two years with a shot from deep in the penalty area into the bottom corner on 55 minutes.
Theo Robinson had struck first blood for the Rams by latching on to a defensive clearance before finishing with a 25-yard lob on 13 minutes.
It’s the first time I’ve felt like we didn’t deserve something
El Hadji Diouf provided the only touches of true class for Rovers, scoring what turned out to be a consolation goal on 67 minutes when he brought down a free-kick and tucked it past Frank Fielding.
Rams manager Nigel Clough said of Roberts: “He’s been a great signing for us and we hope to get his contract sorted out in the next week or so.”
Doncaster boss Dean Saunders said: “It’s the first time I’ve felt like we didn’t deserve something.”
