Welcome mat rolled out at Chelsea for Roberto Di Matteo
ROBERTO DI MATTEO began the task of rescuing Chelsea’s season as he steered them into the sixth round of the FA Cup.
Roberto Di Matteo, placed in charge until the end of the campaign by owner Roman Abramovich after the sacking of Andre Villas-Boas on Sunday, saw goals from Juan Mata and Raul Meireles seal a 2-0 win over a spirited Birmingham at St Andrews in the fifth-round replay.
Di Matteo left Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard, Michael Essien and Daniel Sturridge on the bench, but still had too much firepower for their injury-hit rivals. They will face another Championship side, Leicester, at home in the sixth round.
Mata, left, scored in the 54th minute and Meireles fired in a rocket six minutes later.
