Blackburn 3 Sheffield Wednesday 1: Ruben Rochina’s fast start
BLACKBURN put their poor start to the season behind them with a three-goal blast in the first eight minutes to reach the third round.
Ruben Rochina scored twice in the opening four minutes to set the tone.
The young Spaniard converted a cross from Brett Emerton in the third minute then fired past Richard O’Donnell from a tight angle less than a minute later.
Blackburn’s dream start continued in the eighth minute when new signing David Goodwillie rammed home a shot from the right flank.
Martin Olsson had a penalty appeal turned down after falling under Liam Palmer’s challenge in the box as the home side continued to cruise towards half-time.
Wednesday hinted at a comeback five minutes after the break when they pulled one goal back.
Chris Lines free-kick fed substitute Clinton Morrison who fired a superb left-foot shot into the net.
