Nicky Butt has launched a scathing attack on Alejandro Garnacho over his conduct and suggests the former Manchester United star wasn't "that great anyway", and the club were right to sell him. The Argentinian initially established his reputation at Old Trafford, with several breakthrough performances, before transferring to Chelsea in the summer and clashing with those in authority.

Garnacho antagonised Ruben Amorim and became progressively sidelined. He was dropped for the Europa League final, responding furiously on social media, and subsequently posted images of himself wearing an Aston Villa shirt with Marcus Rashford's name.

He made it obvious he desired an exit and United were content to enable the transfer. Butt was overseeing the club's academy when Garnacho initially arrived and it was evident he valued himself highly, but his behaviour towards the concluding period was simply unacceptable.

He said on TThe Good, The Bad and The Football: "I thought he had an edge about him. And when he got into the first team - I will just say what I think because I was there - he got above his station way too quick. He got superstar status way too quick.

"And that's not a former player saying they get paid too much, I hope young players get paid millions, but he got superstar status too quick and he obviously scored the bicycle kick which was phenomenal.

"Someone in that club or team at the time should have been swatting him down, and they might have been, and he ignored them.

"But the best thing United did was sell him because, forget his ability, and I don't think he is that great anyway, but I thought his attitude was a disgrace when he was at United. More importantly when he left, and if you completely disrespect your teammates and the football club when you leave, then that's it."

Despite agitating for a transfer Garnacho has found himself very much a fringe player at Chelsea. He's been named in the starting XI 14 times for the Blues, but has certainly not delivered a sustained influence, with the club possessing an abundance of attacking options.

Last week, he seemed to remove all Chelsea-related content from his TikTok account, only to feature for the Blues at the weekend as they suffered defeat to his former club.

It extended their disappointing recent run and raised additional questions over whether they will secure qualification for next season's Champions League.
