Portsmouth 2 Nottingham Forest 1:Lawrence is in his pomp
Portsmouth 2 Nottingham Forest 1: Portsmouth continued their impressive climb up the table by recording their fourth straight league win for the first time in three years.
Now Pompey, who were languishing in the relegation zone only five weeks ago, have their sights firmly fixed on the play-offs.
Both sides missed chances to take the lead before the advantage went Pompey’s way.
Ibrahima Sonko powered his way into the six-yard area to meet Liam Lawrence’s corner with a thunderous header past keeper Lee Camp.
But within 10 minutes Forest were back on terms with an even better goal. Lewis McGugan provided an angled cross which Paul Anderson threw himself at to guide a sublime header just inside the near post.
Pompey came to life in the second period and their pressure paid off when Lawrence beat Camp with a fierce shot.
