Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford could barely string a couple of passes together on the pitch for Manchester United last season. Apparently, in the words of Rashford, now they are "brothers". Their latest link-up - on social media, rather than in the final third - is precisely the reason why Ruben Amorim has pushed both out.

Jadon Sancho is another. He publicly hailed the "freedom" Rashford had secured by leaving United on loan in January, one of multiple jabs at a club that doesn't deserve his disrespect.

All three players are currently due to return to Carrington for pre-season training in July. Yet, none will play for the club again if there are any standards left in the rubble of a catastrophic 2024/25 season.

Garnacho is well within his rights to support his former team-mate by donning his shirt on holiday.

This summer, Amad has donned the colours of Brighton and Hove Albion, Patrick Dorgu has trained in a Roma shirt, and Manuel Ugarte has chilled on the beach in the red and black of Flamengo.

So, what's the problem? Garnacho knows full well that he has been linked with Aston Villa and that Rashford's relationship with United's support is in a similarly precarious position.

To the naive, Garnacho sharing an image of himself wearing an Aston Villa shirt bearing 'Rashford 9' may simply be a show of support to a forward he has looked up to.

But there is enough proof from the past year that suggests there is a petty undertone surrounding the 20-year-old winger's decision.

Garnacho's relationship with Amorim reached breaking point when the Argentine stirred speculation about his future moments after the crushing Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in May.

A passive-aggressive Instagram story post before that match, likely after he had learned he wasn't starting in Bilbao, was the support act.

Garnacho took to the social media platform again after spending United's post-season tour of Asia looking like he would rather be anywhere but.

In fairness, that feeling would have been shared among others in the dressing room. But guess who publicly heralded that they were "finally" free at the end of it?

Rashford is equally as done at United. There is no going back. Villa opted against spending £40million to buy him at the end of his loan spell.

Weird, considering the tiresome reaction to every little thing he did right just because he had escaped the doom and gloom of United.

In reality, the 27-year-old scored just four goals in 17 games. The Red Devils would do extremely well to pocket that fee this summer.

Sancho is another reject of his loan side. Chelsea would rather pay a £5m fine to send him back to Old Trafford than honour a £25m obligation to buy.

Embarrassing. And yet, reports claim Napoli and Juventus, two European giants, are struggling to seal a deal because he is demanding too much money.

There is another indicator of the type of characters Amorim is attempting to eradicate from his dressing room.

United have tolerated players sticking their middle finger up at the club and fans (literally) for far too long.

If they are to realise their vision and return to not greatness but anything but mediocrity, they must now return the favour and send them packing.
